The Seeds We Sow

We never really know how far they will travel - the seeds we sow in a lifetime. I am always surprised and happy when someone contacts me to let me know that I or my work have touched their lives in a positive way.

These contacts, no matter how rare or how often they come, are always welcome…

The Sketchbook Project

I participated in the Sketchbook Project in 2014, creating a sketchbook (#S121055) filled with watercolors and collages. All of the sketchbooks became part of a donated collection housed in a unique library in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Art Library is home to The Sketchbook Project collection in its physical form. The library’s walls are lined with shelves that hold the tens of thousands of sketchbooks currently in the collection, created by artists from around the world. Serving as a reading room, the library offers a hands-on experience where its guests can spend an afternoon enjoying artwork from artists throughout the world. Literally, they can hold that art in the palm of their hand!

I was fortunate because my sketchbook was included in the Library’s 2014 mobile tour of over 20 cities in the U.S. and Canada. I know that it was viewed by at least one person in Toronto. I wonder what they thought about it... To date, seven people have viewed it. Who will be next?

As you can imagine with so many sketchbooks to choose from, the artist never knows when or if someone will see their art. But I can tell you that it is always a thrill when someone does! Over the years, I receive notices when my sketchbook has been checked out and viewed. It always brings a smile to my face to know that someone picked me and has looked at my sketchbook. In those brief moments, I find myself hoping that my work will intrigue or inspire that person to create.

If you are looking for just such a project yourself, there is an open challenge for the 2018 Sketchbook Project. I would invite you to consider participating…
Who knows where it might lead and what seeds of creativity you, too, might sow!

                              Yours in Art and Creativity,
